Starting therapy is a big and important step! So firstly, good for you looking into starting for the first time!
Secondly, here is a general idea of what you can expect when getting started with therapy:
You will be able to meet for a free 15 minute consultation session, to answer any of your questions—and make sure you feel it is a good fit for you!
If you agree to continue working with a therapist, you will be given consent forms to read and sign before beginning with your therapist.
Your insurance coverage will be verified by Alma, or your out-of-pocket session fee will be discussed with your therapist. You will have your session fee confirmed prior to your intake appointment.
You will meet for a 1-hour intake session with your therapist. An intake session is a structured session, where your therapist asks you questions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the many parts of your life.
The intake is also where you and your therapist will collaborate to establish goals to guide your work together.
You will set the frequency of sessions with your therapist and continue to meet.
-
You may complete the consultation form on our website, which will be submitted to our HIPAA-compliant admin email. Once submitted, we will use the information you provided to schedule your consultation appointment.
-
We use Zoom for video sessions, which is a HIPAA-compliant platform.
You will receive a Zoom link via email prior to your scheduled appointment.
-
If at any point you are engaged with any sort of legal proceedings, including custody, divorce, or criminal proceedings, we reserve the right to not speak to lawyers or provide information for legal proceedings, unless we are subpoenaed by a judge.
Protecting your confidentiality is our ethical responsibility. Referring to the Confidentiality section from our Treatment Agreement, in general, the law protects the privacy of all communication between a client and a mental health provider. This includes information shared verbally during sessions, therapist documentation of sessions, and overall progress in treatment. We may only release dates of service and whether or not you are active or inactive in treatment to lawyers if you sign a HIPAA authorization form. You have the right to revoke any such authorizations at any time, which must be in writing.
-
We require that appointments are canceled 24 hours in advance. Appointments canceled in less than 24 hours of your appointment time will be charged a late cancellation fee, which is equivalent to your agreed upon out-of-pocket session fee, or the amount insurance reimburses your therapist.
